Immigration Law: Residence Permits

Residence permit applications are made to the Prefecture of the place of residence, through platforms such as ANEF or Démarches-simplifiées.

• Temporary residence cards: valid for up to one year, they are renewable and are issued on various grounds (private and family life, employee, entrepreneur/liberal profession, student, visitor or exceptional admission).
• Multi-year residence cards: introduced by the law of 7 March 2016, these cards are issued for a period of up to four years, following a first temporary card. Certain categories, such as visitors or trainees, are excluded from this regime.
• Resident cards: valid for ten years, they are for applicants who can show uninterrupted residence of five years in France, regular and stable resources, and health insurance. Special conditions also allow them to be granted as of right in certain cases of family reunification.
